abstract = "More accurate estimates of precipitation using radar data are
essential for the use in hydrological models and for the
efficiency in the emission of weather alerts based upon
nowcasting. Meteorological S-band radar data have been used to
estimate precipitation in selected points of the radar area,
corresponding to the locations of rain gauges, installed in the
                         automatic meteorological stations of Camet{\'a},
Tom{\'e}-A{\c{c}}u and Soure,. This study has been developed for
the period of July of 2014, which is climatologically considered a
month of transition between the wet season and the dry season of
the Eastern Amazon region. The comparison between radar data and
rain gauge data has been carried out in order to verify the
suitability of Marshall-Palmer (MP) Z-R relationship for this
region and to calibrate a new Z-R relationship for this radar,
considering the ones performed in previous studies, such as the
one for tropical rain, for convective precipitation and for rain
from a thunderstorm. It was possible to verify that the MP Z-R
relationship underestimated the rain for this period. In addition,
the convective Z-R relationship, which has been tested for these
data, seemed to be the most suitable for this region in this time
                         of the year.",
